Your turnover, activity, premises and operating model determine the route. From April 2026, the general turnover bands are registration up to ₹1.5 crore, State licensing above ₹1.5 crore up to ₹50 crore, and Central licensing above ₹50 crore. Activity-specific requirements can override a turnover-only assessment; importers, e-commerce operators and caterers need particular attention.
FSSAI introduced perpetual validity in 2026, unless a registration or licence is suspended, cancelled or surrendered. Annual government fees and ongoing compliance still apply. Existing businesses should check the status and migration requirements of their record in FoSCoS.
